Swan Rangers Do Broken Leg Boot Wash!

A bit of steam rises from Wolf Creek! (Keith Hammer photos)

Nine Swan Rangers hiked a loop on the northern shoulder of Broken Leg Mountain on a damp Saturday, August 16, 2014!

It was a welcome chance to rinse the dust of their boots, with most continuing up from the end of the old Bear Creek Road to the Broken Leg Trail, over to Elk Springs, and back down!

First and foremost; hiking is serious business!

It was a good day to get the dust off the boots . . .

. . . and test out the new instant-read trekking pole thermometer. Just stick it into a pile of bear scat and, the closer it gets to a bear's body temperature of 100, the closer the bear!

Rain falling on cedars.

Rain falling on maples.

Devil's Club blossoms are setting seed along Wolf Creek - a sure sign Fall is coming!

The deep yellow and green of wonderful tansy!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
