Swan Rangers Celebrate 700th Outing!

A toast with sparkling cider at Wolf Creek! (Keith Hammer photos)

Seven Swan Rangers celebrated the Rangers' 700th every-Saturday outing at Wolf Creek on a drippy Saturday, May 18, 2019!

The first outing was November 12, 2005, and 572 people have since shared not only the landscape, but the natural and cultural history of the Swan Range!

In honor of this 700th outing and the mindful nature of the Swan Rangers, you are invited to practice the Swan Crest Crawl wherever you are. Click here for details!

Looked a bit rainy further up Wolf Creek Canyon . . .

. . . so the Rangers decided to hike in from the south to this great spot . . .

. . . for a little celebration!

Along the way, the Rangers had a discussion about the sticky red cottonwood sap that smells so good, is a natural disinfectant, and is collected by bees to seal and disinfect their hives!

They also came across clematis . . .

. . . Oregon grape . . .

. . . and Indian paintbrush!

They also learned that March winds and April showers bring May flowers and Juneberry (also known as serviceberry or saskatoon)!

Gooseberry or currant?

Still for Sale: Used bear bell!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
