Swan Ranger Hike Smokey Mountains!

The Swan Range viewed from the Swan River School! (Keith Hammer photos unless otherwise noted)

Seven Swan Rangers hiked a short outing in thick wildfire smoke on Saturday, August 29, 2015!

Five chose the non-cardio flat lands of the Foothills Ski Area while two sought a workout on the steep Crater Notch Trail!

The smoke makes one's eyes sting and head ache, but its good for an interesting sunrise!

Nothing like a walk in the woods to lift the spirits!

Noisy Creek continues to flow from the Swan Range in spite of the drought!

Even this late-bloomer refuses to give up! Maybe a snowberry blossom?

This photo was taken after turning around at "the first lunch spot" along the Crater Notch Trail, where it was reported the smoke had not cleared at higher elevation! (Stuart Cole/Norma Linksy photo)

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
