Swan Rangers Hike Echo - Broken Leg!

Wolf Creek Canyon (Keith Hammer photos except one)

Eleven Swan Rangers hiked the Echo - Broken Leg Trail on a sunny side up with a side of Alberta smoke Saturday, June 1, 2019!

Wildflowers are peaking in Wolf Creek Canyon and only a few ticks were seen!

Click here for a map of the Echo - Broken Leg Trail.

The Swan Rangers arrive by buckboard at the Echo Ranger Station across the road from the Echo - Broken Leg trailhead! (This is actually a Forest Service photo of Assistant Flathead Forest Supervisor Jack Clack arrving there sometime before 1920). Poke around in the brush opposite the trailhead parking lot, a little downhill between the gravel pit and the road, and you can find rockwork remaining from the old Ranger Station!

All fresh as daisies at the Birch Creek bridge!

Deer Creek.

It's looking like a good year for beargrass!

So say the ladybugs, anyway!

Indian paintbrush is abundant!

Feathery Solomon's Seal.

Fernleaf Desert Parsley surrounded by Larkspur.

Arrowleaf Balsamroot.

Baby ponderosa pine cones!

The Swan Rangers meet every Saturday at the Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast at 7:30, leaving at 8:30 for a partial day outing in the northern Swan Mountains and foothills.

They carpool from the Swan River School parking lot next to the Cafe.

When hiking in bear country, remember to carry bear spray and avoid the 3-D's: dawn, dusk, and darkness.

Everyone is welcome!
